Album: Jaan

Singer: Sonu Nigam

Music: Nikhil-Vinay

Lyrics: Faaiz Anwar

AFTER the mammoth success of Sonu Nigam's Deewana, T-Series and Sonu are back with a brand-new, updated version of romantic singles, Jaan.

How do you feel when when perfect melody surfaces in an area, which is much dominated by 'wannabe' singers who rely mainly on good marketing and glitzy videos? Well, you feel refreshed and hopeful. This is exactly what happens when you listen to Sonu Nigam's pop albums. His foray in the pop world and his success there after, gives hope to not just him but all those who appreciate melody. After his much popular 'Deewana', Sonu Nigam comes up with 'Jaan', a compilation that showcases his immense talent.

The album containing soothing tunes has been adeptly composed by Nikhil- Vinay. Remember the brilliant music given by them in 'Chor Aur Chaand'? This time too they have managed to create hummable music. I wonder why they fail to get more work in Bollywood. Sonu Nigam enthuses romance in every song that he renders. He at times reminds one of the late Mohammed Rafi who excelled in rendering each line with the appropriate feeling. He has perfect control over his voice and comes across as a man much deeply in love. The music video starring the gorgeous Bipasha Basu, complements the audio well and would definitely contribute to the album's success.

Probably the only chance that the album gives for complaint is when one discovers that the songs sound too similar. However, that happens with most albums. So without any biases, I would say to the Indi Pop listeners, "go check out the album, you would find it refreshing."

This is Sonu's new album that has him in a more mature garb and more challenging tunes. Tere Milna Pal Do Pal Ka just grows on you. Both Jaane Kyon and Tujse Chhune are done on a waltz beat. Makes me wonder why use a beat so strongly western in a Sonu Nigam album. Look out for the rolling 'R's' in Har Par Aane Lagi and the voice technique in Jisne Mere Sapne. Main Pyar Hoon is a catchy tune to sing by the bonfire.

Most of the songs are in the same mood but all very listenable. The lyrics by Faaiz Anwar and music by Nikhil Vinay are pretty good. Short and sweet review, wouldn't you say that?
