Sonu Nigam wants more movie songs

Sonu Nigam says he would like to concentrate on film songs, and has stopped doing television shows. He told Filmfare recently that the last he had shot for TVS Saregama, the popular TV programme, was in March last year. He wants to sing more film songs. Sonu sang an Arabian-style number for Rahman in Dil se, and recently released Jaan, a private album.

Sonu Nigam: Singing A Different Tune

After crooning away several hits at an age as young as his, the twenty-seven year old Sonu Nigam seems ready to make it as a hero on-screen as well. He was coaxed into considering the possibility of making it in the movies by none other than Ramesh Taurani of Tips. And sure enough Sonu has relented finally. These days the chocolate-faced singer, besides of course shunting from one recording studio to the other also packs in a bit of power, visiting his gymnasium regularly. Of course, he realises he needs to build muscle to wield authority on screen. After all flexing one's vocal chords is one thing. Flexing one's biceps is another altogether. So what say Sonu, will you hit the right notes this time as well?

SONU NIGAM - SINGER

"I check my e-mail everyday. I visit corporate sites to keep in touch with the latest from the likes of Packard, IBM and Apple sites. I read magazines like The Economist. My favorite is the BBC site where I access the daily news and presently, ESPN to keep up with the cricket scores."

Songs sung blue

He’s back. And so is the melody. Sonu Nigam came on the pop scene with his album and video of Kismet is making the best of good times with a new album, titled Sanskar. But this is a musical voyage with a difference. The singer has teamed up with music director Ravi Pawar [who has worked on albums like Deewane to Deewane Hai, Ho Jayegi Balle Balle, Tunak Tunak Tun to create an album of eight soulful songs. The intensity and feeling of Sonu’s voice comes through in the video track Hari Mere Ghar Ko, Vandana Kariye and Soja Sapno Mein Khoja. This is a different Sonu Nigam from the one viewers have been in his debut video, Kismet. Through popular music channels may not play the video because of its slow pace, it may be interesting to get a glimpse of it in other channels and see a different dimension of Sonu Nigam.

CHALA MURARI HERO BANNE

Sonu Nigam is out of Sa Re Ga Ma. The show is now being hosted by Amaan and Ayaan Ali Bangash, the handsome sons of ustad Amjad Ali Khan. That’s old news though. What’s new is that apna Sonu is hell bent on making a career out of films.
Looks like the glamour bug has bitten him real hard. People say his albums with Bipasha Basu, Diya Mirza... are just a beginning. The guy is mad about movies. Remember some of his films (?) for T-series that went phut?Guess what, he’s spending a lot of his time on body-building!!! News is that he’s got himself a physical trainer. Coz the new thing for Bollywood heroes is to have a great body! But what’s funny here is that Sonu Nigam had once upon a time said he was never interested in acting! And now he’s willing to quit singing for movies

Sonu Nigam has done it again.

A great combo of yester year’s Rafi and Kishore Kumar’s vocals, his voice is really worth listening if you are one of the die hard romantic notes fan. Jaan has 8 songs and the album is doing rounds in the markets and is a hot property at every music store. More than anything the video directed by Anubhav Sharma, for the song Tera Milna pal do pal ka...is fantastic. The album on the whole is listenable, the beats are catchy and the lyrics excellent. But, when listening to the music you can actually make out that a few snippets are lifted from quite a few Hindi film songs. Inspite of all Jaan has been well received by the generally choosy public. The thing to boast about in Jaan is, Sonu’s vocals and Faiz Anwar's lyrics. By the end of the last song in the album you might get a feeling of 'Deewana' Sonu's earlier album. The theme of all songs is almost same and all sung in same style. Hey! but you can still 'HO HO ho ho ' with the Tera milna the title track..

Sonu sings for big B.

Sonu Nigam: (Sooryavansham) Sonu's songs are Chori Chori, Peepal Ka Patwa, and Sooryavansham. The first 2 he sings in his usual brillant voice. What makes his voice work for AB is when he hits the high and loud notes in Chori Chori. With anyother singer it would sound like yelling, but Sonu turns it into a treat. Those high and loud parts of the song, somehow manage to resemble the AB voice we have come to love. Sonu tries his hand at the AB voice in the title track Sooryavansham and he is dead on. Even though the song was only in the background, you could easily see the older AB in that kinda voice. Sonu gets the powerful deep voice down, and yet he still sings through the song. Sonu shows that he is very versatile.
