Born in Faridabad on 30th July Sonu Nigam lived his formative
years in New Delhi. It was his father’s, singer and performer Shri Agam Kumar Nigam’s, passion for music that Sonu imbibed in his early years.
At the age of three, while accompanying his father for a show, Sonu gave his first public performance in the town of Jind by singing the popular Mohd Rafi song Kya hua tera waada from “Hum Kisise Kum Nahin”.
As teenager, Sonu came to Mumbai aspiring for that ultimate break in the music industry and after years of struggle finally broke through the rigid industry and since then he’s never looked back. Sonu, to his credit, has liased with the best people in the music and film industry. From top film producers
and directors like J.P. Dutta, Subhash Ghai, Mani Ratnam, John Matthew, Umesh Mehra to top music directors like Laxmikant Pyarelal, A.R. Rahman, Anu Malik and Jatin Lalit, Sonu has worked with them all.
His role as host of the TV music serial “Sa Re Ga Ma” brought Sonu in contact with India’s topmost exponents of music, both instrumental and vocal as well as fresh talent in the filed of music. From them, he’s learnt to understand music deeply and its,
intricacies. His popularity as compere is unprecedented and he’s already hosted 200 episodes of “Sa Re Ga Ma” which enjoys viewership of more than a Crore and a half viewers per episode.
A playback singer, TV host and a pop artiste too - Sonu’s versatility has helped him carve a niche for himself in the world of Hindi pop music too.
“MAUSAM” - THE ALBUM:
Magnasound released Sonu Nigam’s latest Hindi pop album "mausam” on July 9, 1999 and since then the album has done exceedingly well in the music market. The eight songs of “Mausam” pack in the danceable urgency of pop music with the ingering highs of light classical and folk music.
“Mausam”, an album conceived and supervised by Sonu, sees him combine the best of both the worlds. Sonu has tried various singing styles in “Mausam”. Sonu feels “Mausam” is for those people who want something new in pop music. “Mausam” guarantees
rejuvenation of one’s mood when you are feeling down and out. All the songs on the album have a definite “feel good” listen to them.
The songs in “Mausam” have been composed by Ravi Pawar and written by Ajay Jhingran and Shahab Allahabadi. The title track of “Mausam” is being currently picturised in the exquisite locales of Goa. The video is being directed by Yogesh Sahu and
cinematographed by well known cinematographer Rasool Ellore.
The highpoint of the video is that apart from Sonu it stars the reigning Ms. India Gul Panag.
