In 1999, only five pop albums, one ghazal album and four artists sold. Topping the list was Sonu Nigam with Deewana. This album has been among the top three for the past 6-8 months and even today continues to do brisk business.
It created a record of sorts when it re-entered the pole position in the Times Music charts after a short break. Deewana has already sold 20 lakh cassettes, which is phenomenal for a pop album in today's hard times. With a business of over Rs 6 crore it is one of the biggest Indipop hits ever.
