The songs of J.P. Dutta's Refugee and Dharmesh Darshan's Mela will further consolidate my reputation. I have cut another album with T-Series called Jaan. It's a compilation of eight songs and I have got a fabulous price for it. I hope I don't sound presumptuous, but we don't have many well- trained singers.
Today we have performers who come out with albums at the drop of a hat. They are clueless about raags and aren't trained in classical singing. Maybe today's songs don't need singers to be proficient. Look at Dekho 2000 zamana aa gaya from Mela. That song doesn't need great effort or riyaaz. So you can see Leslie Lewis and Hariharan having fun, making quivering sounds with their voice. But hear Hariharanji non-film ghazals, they require depth and knowledge of classical muisc which he has.
Are music dirctors complaining that I'm doing too much of television. Oh, lord, forgive their ignorance. The last time I shot for the music show Sa Re Ga Ma was in March `99. I'm going to wholly concentrate on my songs. Now's the time.
