As you may know, the highly successful playback singer and pop star Sonu Nigam has decided to broaden his horizons even further by entering the realm of acting. We heard that Nigam had signed three films already, and now it appears that the first film is all set to go. The film's title is apparently still undecided, but the film is reportedly going to be both produced and directed by Rajkumar Kohli. Sonu has been given a romantic part, but he will be joined by four other male competitors in the likes of Akshay Kumar, Sunny Deol, Sharad Kapoor, and Aftaab Shivdasani. With five male leads, just how much of a role can this film offer Sonu?
Being in front of a camera is not exactly a foreign concept to Sonu, who was the host of Zee TV's SaReGaMa for three years. That's not to mention his dozens of pop videos, some of which even feature Nigam taking on dancing! Furthermore, Sonu is already admired by women nationwide and abroad, both for his clean good looks and his sweet, cotton candy image. So, it seems that the path to film stardom has already been cleared for him.
Sonu says that he is taking his forthcoming acting career as seriously as he has taken his singing. He is confident that putting his mind to it will bring him success. Such success would definitely be warmly welcomed by Sonu, who has been planning to gain the younger generation's attention for some time now.
So will this singing phenom from Dehli achieve his goal? We'll have to wait and see. Let's just hope he doesn't try to change his image to a more "dangerous" one like he did in his pop videos for "Tu" (from album Kismat) and "Bijuria" (from Mausam). It doesn't take much to see that the mild image works much better for him.
Lastly, if this latest endeavor of Sonu works, it could pave the way for other pop stars to make their enterances into films. It has already been tried by Raageshwari, but that didn't get anywhere. We may see some of the younger playback singers like Sunidhi Chauhan, Kamaal Khan, and Hema Sardesai give acting a try.
